Acupuncture with Golden Tiger Wellness brings a unique, holistic approach that is based in years of bodywork, a rich understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Chinese astrological perspective.
Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles at strategic points on the body to treat a vast variety of symptoms and to optimize health and wellbeing. Originating in China over 2000 years ago, the theory of acupuncture is based on manipulating, and ultimately balancing one’s “qi”, or “life force.” Traditional acupuncturists theorize that disease and pathologies are due to an imbalance or disturbance in the energy (qi) of internal organs, external structures, and even the mind. The acupuncturist uses the ancient concepts of yin and yang, five phases, and meridian theory to restore balance. Although the idea of qi is not entirely accepted by our western culture, acupuncture is used as a powerful complement to modern medicine. It is proven to be effective in reducing pain, increasing circulation, and decreasing inflammation and stress.
Golden Tiger Wellness’ years of experience in massage of all forms, coupled with knowledge of meridians and qi, offers a unique targeted approach to Asian bodywork.
CUPPING
Cupping is the use of suction through specialized cups to improve the flow of blood and qi, and to detoxify soft tissue. The cups are applied over acupuncture points and along meridians. This treatment nearly always causes bruising or skin discoloration, which is to be expected. Cupping is a popular treatment with patients due to its results and similarity to massage.
MOXIBUSTION
Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy that is performed by burning dried mugwort over acupuncture points and along meridians. In addition to warming the meridians and local areas, moxibustion is effective for patients deficient in qi. It provides relief for a number of issues and is especially effective for ailments such as arthritis, digestive issues, and menstrual pain.
ASIAN BODYWORK
Asian bodywork such as Shiatsu, acupressure, and Tuina are especially intent on manipulating qi and blood along the meridians. These hands on methods provide clients with an alternative option to acupuncture needles and still experience and benefit of treatment. All acupuncture points can be stimulated and manipulated without the use of the traditional needles.
